Code of conduct
At OpenSourceUoM, we are committed to providing a welcoming and enjoyable FOSSCOMM 2024 experience for everyone. Our community respects and values all individuals, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ability, body shape, size, or preferred linux distribution. Harassment, abuse, or discrimination in any form will not be tolerated.
FOSSCOMM is an inclusive, community-driven event that celebrates free and open-source software (FOSS). Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and collaborative environment for everyone involved, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers and organizers. We are dedicated to providing an open platform where knowledge can be shared, and ideas can flourish, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect.
We understand that cultural differences may sometimes lead to misunderstandings, and we strive to address and resolve these situations as they occur. We expect participants to be courteous, proactive, and to contribute to a positive conference experience for all.
By attending FOSSCOMM 2024, participants agree to adhere to this Code of Conduct.
Participants who violate these principles may face consequences, including being denied entry or being expelled from the conference, at the discretion of the organizers. This is particularly important for speakers and other prominent figures to keep in mind.
1. Be Respectful
All participants must be treated with respect. This applies regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, national origin, age, religion, or any other characteristic. Discrimination, harassment, or demeaning behavior is not tolerated.
2. Harassment-Free Environment
FOSSCOMM is committed to providing a harassment-free experience.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, display of sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, unauthorized or inappropriate photography or recording, continuous disruption of talks or events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior must comply immediately.
Should a participant engage in harassing behavior, conference organizers may take appropriate action, which could include issuing a warning or expelling the offender from the event. If you experience or witness harassment, or have other concerns, please contact a conference team member immediately. The conference team is ready to assist participants by contacting venue security or local law enforcement, providing escorts, or offering any support needed to ensure a safe experience throughout the conference. We value your presence.
3. Be Open and Supportive
FOSSCOMM encourages openness, collaboration, and the free exchange of ideas. Engage in discussions constructively, offering help and feedback. Be patient and mindful that not everyone has the same level of experience or knowledge.
4. Respect Privacy
Respect others' privacy. Permission must be obtained before sharing or publishing personal data, photos, or any other material that involves someone else.
5. Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
Participants asked to stop any unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately. The organizing team reserves the right to take appropriate action, including:
- Warning the offender.
- Expulsion from the event.
- Reporting the incident to local authorities if necessary.
5. Reporting
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of the organizing team immediately. All reports will be treated confidentially.
- Email: info@fosscomm.gr
- By directly talking to one of the conference organisers (people with the dark FOSSCOMM24 Polo Shirt) or volunteers (people with the light-colored FOSSCOMM24 T-Shirts).
We take all incidents seriously and will work to address and resolve issues as swiftly and discreetly as possible.
FOSSCOMM is powered by volunteers, and the success of this event relies on the collaboration, kindness, and respect of its participants. We thank you for helping to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. Let’s make FOSSCOMM 2024 an inspiring, inclusive, and productive event for all!
6. Photography and Livestreaming
By registering for this event, you consent to be photographed and filmed during sessions, workshops, and other activities. Images and video may be used by FOSSCOMM for promotional purposes, including on social media, livestreams, and websites. If you do not wish to appear in photographs or videos, please inform the registration desk upon arrival. Our team will provide a visible sticker for your badge or a different-colored lanyard to indicate your preference.
Photographers, livestream operators, and staff are instructed to respect these identifiers. However, please note that photography in general spaces may still capture all attendees unintentionally. If you believe you were photographed by mistake, let the registration desk or photographer know, and we will work to address your concern.
Please note that this Code of Conduct may be updated at any time to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. It is your responsibility to check for any updates to the Code of Conduct, as changes will take immediate effect and apply to all attendees.
Thank you!
